In 2016 I gratefully received a bursary from the Lawrence Montagu Foundation, in order to pay for my drama school auditions. I have since completed the audition process for five out of the six universities that I have applied for and have received two offers – one from The University of Central Lancashire to study Music Theatre, and the other from The University of Chichester to study Music and Musical Theatre. With the money, I was able to fulfil my desire of studying Musical Theatre at university. I will be starting my higher education in September and I am very appreciative of the help that I have received from the Lawrence Montagu Foundation.

In 2015, I had the honour of receiving a bursary from The Lawrence Montagu Foundation. This generous donation has allowed me to attend an Eton Choral Course and receive tuition from the accomplished singing teacher, Bronwen Mills. The course was both exciting and educational, presenting me with the opportunity to sing in the main course choir, sing in small consort groups, attend private lessons, arrange a piece in a trio, and sing Evensong in St Paul’s Cathedral. I believe that this, alongside my singing lessons with Bronwen Mills, is what gave me the skills to receive a scholarship to Birmingham Conservatoire. I will begin the course in September 2017 and will be studying musical performance. I am incredibly grateful for the support and opportunity.

I actually came to St. Peter’s late for my Sixth Form but loved my time there. If I am honest about it, I was really attracted to the school because I knew there were so many good tennis players that had been produced there and I wanted to be a part of that although I knew I was considerably below that level when I arrived. Once at St. Peter’s I realised that there was far more to the tennis at the school than just being good. Everyone got on and knew each other well – it was like a family and they accepted me as part of this very quickly. It was probably because of how comfortable I felt that I progressed so much with my tennis. The coaching was very good but a major reason for me as to why I improved so much was no matter how good people were they would try and help you rather than look down on you. There was a great feeling of community that ran through the school as well as the tennis.

 

Anyway, during my time at St. Peter’s I went up 8 National tennis ratings in two years and ended my time at the school by playing for them in the National Finals where we finished 6th in the UK and as the top Comprehensive.

 

When I started at the school I had never given any thought to anything other than playing tennis. I had never considered how tennis could be a career for me. People started to praise me for my personality and said that I would make a great coach so I started to act on it. I was given the opportunity to take a lot of coaching qualifications free of charge which I did and the tutors started to say too that I should take more. The LM Foundation supported me with the considerable cost of my UKCC Level 3 Tennis Qualification which really meant that I could have a career in tennis coaching. I was successful and as a result I was able to acquire a really good coaching job shortly afterwards which has taught me so much and I have really enjoyed it. Without the direction of St. Peter’s initially and then the financial support of the LM Foundation it is fair to say I really wouldn’t be in the position I am now. I have been very lucky!
